Digital audio and music files can contain, in addition to the audio data, related text and graphic information. These information fields (AKA tags) could be used to store song title, artist name, genre, album name and date of release, cover image or some photo. Tagging - including additional information, other than main data, into some file.
There are many formats of digital audio files. The most popular are MP3, WMA and WAV.
WAV files doesn't support tags.
MP3 and MP3pro files have ID3 format of tags.
WMA files have own tagging format, which is specified in the WMA specification.
Ogg Vorbis files use "Xiph Comments", which are embedded into the Ogg container.
Monkey's Audio files use own APE tag format.
AAC files use own tagging format that, which is not published at all.
